A Yearly Challenge
Practice The Preach
How hard is it to live green? This year we will find out.

About Us
At the end of last year I published a book on human impacts at a planetary scale. This has prompted us to explore how easy it is to live green and good as a family of three. This blog will walk through the twelve months of 2023 trying different challenges that help us acheive sustainable living. Each monthly blog will provide some information from the book on the relevant subject of the challenge and links to potential groups that can support ethical changes. This year we will live in Australia and the UK so we can compare the challenge but for anyone elsewhere keen to join in, we would love to hear about your experiences. Good luck and here's hoping some of the changes we make stick..!
As a family we are taking on a 2023 challenge to try a different sacrifice every month of this year. At the end of each month, and as we go, we will blog about:
-
what we have learned
-
what was hard, a fail or ideally top tips to succeed!
-
information on why we have chosen each task
-
broadly, what is happening in this space
We will mix in a few months of mindfulness type challenges to cheer us up after the tougher ones… but join in if you like and please share your experiences as you go!
The challenges are:
January: The month without chocolate
February: The month without plastics Australia
March: The month of swims
April: The month of local produce
May: The month of litter picking
June: The month of vegan
July: The month of writing letters
August: The month of carbon neutral
September: The month of meditation
October: The month without plastics UK
November: The month of nature bathing
December: The month of everyday charitable deeds
One last thing! For any day that we fall short there is a consequence. We will donate 50 AUD to a relevant charity related to the task - one that is trying to push us all toward ecological and social health. This will be noted each month.
